Jason McLennan visited Victoria last Spring to talk about the release of the Cascadia White Paper: Through a Clear Lens, a Living Building Financial Study.

Living Future 09 – Portland, OR, May 6-8, 2009
Congratulations to the Victoria Emerging Green Builder teams that finished First and Third in the Natural Talent Design Competition at Living Future 09. The winning team was entered into the National Competition and traveled to Phoenix for the USGBC’s GreenBuild Conference!

Living Building 2.0 Released!
The latest version of the Living Building standard was released in November. Stay tuned for further updates on opportunities to learn about Living Building 2.0 and the Living Building Ambassador program in 2010.
LEED Study Group and LEED User Group
Many thanks to Phyllis Godfrey and Kathy Hogan for organizing and special thanks to Marie Savage for instructing the LEED Study Groups this year. The LEED User Group also met several times last year, again thanks to Phyllis and Kathy and the speakers who presented.
Changes to LEED
In 2009, the US and Canada Green Building Council’s announced changes to the LEED accreditation system, including a new 3 tier accreditation level, specialized training and a 2 year continuing education program. We at the Branch are working with the Cascadia BC office and the Canada Green Building Council to make sure LEED AP’s are kept up to date as the new system is implemented. Stay tuned!
Building Tour of Local Government House
The Vancouver Island Branch arranged a tour of the Union of BC Municipalities new headquarters building on Government Street in November.
New Steering Committee for Vancouver Island Branch
Thanks to Kristi Fox, Kathy Hogan and Jordan Fisher who served on the Steering Committee for the Vancouver Island Branch in 2009!
In December, the Steering Committee re-organized and welcomed Phyllis Godfrey and Rob Duncan. The Steering Committee for 2010 is:
