Committee Descriptions

 

CASCADIA METRO VANCOUVER BRANCH COMMITTEES

 

Administration Committee

The Administration Committee is at the pulse of the Metro Vancouver Branch working as an integral part of the Steering Committee in creating and providing effective internal communication and continuity for the branch.  There are several opportunities to volunteer and work directly with the Steering Committee.

Objectives & Tasks:

  • Attend, record and post monthly Steering Committee minutes and discussions
  • Attend, record and post special meetings and discussions with Cascadia staff and guests
  • Assist with keeping branch information current on Basecamp
  • Contribute to effective communication and organizational development within the branch

Participation includes attending monthly Steering Committee meetings, posting and communicating on

Basecamp, Cascadia’s online communication tool.

 

Communications Committee

The Communications Committee coordinates with Cascadia staff, the Marketing Committee, and the Outreach Committee to ensure that all events and announcements are advertised and accessible to the community.

Objectives & Tasks:

  • Regularly update the Cascadia website and event pages
  • Distribute e-mail announcements

Announcements reflect the events and activities of Metro Vancouver and are sent to relevant lists and the

BC Advocacy & Outreach Manager to include them in Cascadia’s monthly announcements and the

annual Cascadia Programming Guide.

 

Community Engagement Committee

The Community Engagement Committee educates and promotes green building within the community.

Objectives & Tasks:

  • Promote interest in school communities in the learning of sustainability as well as support teachers and students to incorporate the learning of sustainability in various subject areas
  • Collaborate with educational institutions and other organizations to identify and create opportunities for community engagement e.g. visits to green buildings, facilities, exhibitions, etc.
  • Encourage green building professionals to promote interest in sustainability within the community 

 

Emerging Professionals (EP) Committee

Emerging Green Builders are:

  • Students
  • Emerging building industry professionals - within 5 years of graduation

Objectives & Tasks:

  • Recruit and promote Cascadia memberships of emerging green builders by providing a forum to share information about green programs and resources
  • Create a community of emerging green builders by bringing together local university student EGB groups and emerging industry professionals to share and grow green building knowledge
  • Support green building continuing education initiatives by leading EGB study sessions in order to mainstream green building and raise the bar in green building practices
  • Support the USGBC and CaGBC with information about green competitions 

 

Events Committee

The Events committee organizes and provides assistance for all Cascadia events and creates a Cascadia presence at associated functions.  The most frequent events organized are the Vancouver LEED User Group (VLUG) and the Living Building Challenge User Group (LBUG) sessions held on the last Friday of the month during lunch time.

Objectives & Tasks:

  • Organize and host events
  • Research venues and caterers
  • Set up, take down, and clean up event infrastructure
  • Prepare budgets, expense reports and post event assessment 

 

Marketing and Fundraising Committee

The Marketing role is to advertise and promote Cascadia and the Metro Vancouver Branch.

Objectives & Tasks:

  • Provide the Cascadia Metro Vancouver Branch with graphic support
  • Produce Cascadia Metro Vancouver Branch graphic materials such as monthly eblasts, event and promotional information

The  current Fundraising role is to work with the Membership and Recruitment Committee to promote 

and expand membership.

 

Membership and Recruitment Committee

The Membership and Recruitment Committee draws new people into the branch.

Objectives & Tasks:

  • Increase membership by promoting Cascadia’s vision among members and the community
  • Liaise with Cascadia staff to identify membership goals
This committee works closely with the Marketing and Fundraising Committee to achieve its objectives.

 

Outreach Committee

The Outreach Committee develops programs that disseminate information about the greenest research, practices, design and construction projects in Metro Vancouver.  The Outreach Committee books speakers and organizes those speakers and their presentations.

Objectives & Tasks:

  • Plan Vancouver LEED Users Group (VLUG) meetings
  • Plan Living Building User Group (LBUG) meetings
This committee coordinates with the Events Committee to achieve its objectives. 

 

Volunteer Committee

The Volunteer Committee responds to the expressions of interest of prospective volunteers and matches the needs of Cascadia’s Metro Vancouver Branch committees with the offering and commitment of their time and expertise in an area of interest to them.

Objectives & Tasks:

  • Inform prospective volunteers about Cascadia and its various committees
  • Inform existing and new volunteers about the volunteer opportunities within Cascadia
  • Match volunteers with committee needs

This committee works closely with the Steering Committee and communicates with all committees to

achieve its objectives.
