This month's topic: What to do with Carbon
With the close of the Chicago Climate Exchange and shifting geopolitical talks around GHG reduction, the right choice about how to mitigate and offset carbon can be difficult. Is it better to offset with renewable energy projects or tree planting? Should my focus be local or truly additive (i.e. projects in third world countries)? Is one form of offset of more value than another? This session will focus on the principles of renewable energy and carbon commodities and their role in carbon markets. The talk will also explore carbon accounting and verification and steps to take in conducting a GHG accounting or verification project. Even if you believe that carbon offsets are a “sin tax”, this session will help you better understand the rationale for a robust and transparent carbon market.
