Welcome to the Eugene Branch!
The Eugene branch formed in 2006 out of a desire to bring more speakers and training events to our region and to help build a stronger network of community members interested in sustainability. Our mission is to generate momentum towards a sustainable built environment by facilitating education and connections and celebrating our community.
Eugene Branch activities include:
GREEN BUILDING EDUCATIONAL EVENTS: These lunchtime presentations are an opportunity to hear from experienced practitioners, foster interaction, and share information on the many sustainable design and building approaches, tools, challenges, and benefits. Meetings are open to the public. If there are topics you would like to hear more about or share, please contact us.
TOURS: The Branch hosts tours of local buildings that exhibit sustainable approaches.
EVENING EVENTS: These quarterly events typically include a well-known speaker and a social/networking opportunity. The Branch welcomes co-sponsorship opportunities.
STEERING COMMITTEE MEETINGS: The Steering Committee is comprised of representatives from a broad spectrum of Eugene’s diverse green building community. Steering Committee meetings are open to everyone, and new members are always welcome. The Committee usually meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at noon.

GRAYWATER REUSE & DISPOSAL SYSTEMS
New Statewide Rules & Permitting
Ron Doughten, Oregon DEQ
February 21, 2012
Increasing demand on Oregon’s limited water resources has prompted public interest in using graywater as an alternate water source. Graywater is wastewater originating from showers, baths, bathroom sinks, kitchen sinks and laundries. New rules adopted in August 2011 established a statewide program for permitting graywater reuse and disposal systems, and the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) expects to begin accepting permit applications for graywater systems in Spring 2012.
Join us for a conversation about the new rules and practical information for designing systems with Ron Doughten, DEQ’s Water Reuse Program Coordinator. Ron worked with a 14-person advisory committee, including local architect Nir Pearlson, that provided DEQ with recommendations on the new graywater rules and led DEQ’s efforts to get those rules adopted. Ron has 14 years of environmental experience, working for DEQ as well as in private environmental consulting. As DEQ's Biosolids and Water Reuse Program Coordinator, Ron develops DEQ's policies for the recovery and reuse of water and wastewater while protecting public health and the environment. He also provides support to regional DEQ staff who are responsible for permitting biosolids and water reuse activities.
