Manufacturing by Design: intention, innovation + incentive
A PUGET SOUND FORUM TO CAPTURE THE MARKET OPPORTUNITIES AND POTENTIAL OF GREEN BUILDING PRODUCTS.

August 12, 2008
Registration: 7:30, Program: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Continental breakfast and lunch provided.
Center for Urban Horticulture (NHS Hall)
3501 NE 41st Street, Seattle, WA
Green building has reached a tipping point. Concerns over rising energy prices are converging with global issues such as climate change, consumer focus on healthy products and indoor air quality, and local issues including the health of Puget Sound and a healthy local economy. Meanwhile, consumers are exhibiting a new level of understanding when it comes to choosing products—an understanding that reflects their concerns and priorities and is increasingly represented in purchasing decisions.
Join the Cascadia Region Green Building Council for a day of engaging workshops and panel discussions focused on the advancement of the industry through five key topics:
- The Pharos Project: This national campaign is developing the missing 'nutrition label' for building materials. Learn how Pharos works as a tool for manufacturers to design and evaluate products, and as a tool for product specifiers and purchasers to inform the selection process.
- Advocacy: Worker and consumer rights organizations are increasingly focused on identifying hazards in products and identifying “greenwash” in the marketplace. Learn how to address the concerns of this influential group in through cleaner production and honest marketing.
- Local leaders: Hear from Puget Sound manufacturers who have incorporated conservation and environmental practices into their business model to both financial benefit and increased market share.
- National trendsetters: Interact with the winners of Sustainable Industries’ Top 10 Green Building Products and hear about the selection process.
- Financial opportunities: Identify incentives that support public-private partnerships and green collar jobs.
This event aims to provide a catalyst and platform for cross-pollination in the green building industry writ large. Not only for manufacturers wanting to demonstrate ecological leadership through their products and practices, specifiers and purchasers looking for better green product options and ways to find them, as well as public agency representatives wanting to set a national example through regional leadership should attend.
RSVP is required. There is a nominal $40 registration charge ($50 for non-Cascadia members) to cover the administrative fees associated with the event. In the spirit of collaboration, there is no fee for the Manufacturing by Design program.

Manufacturing by Design is a unique opportunity to interface with manufacturers and product purchasers and specifiers in the Puget Sound region. Sponsorship opportunities available, view the summary document or contact:
