Topic: IES & Revit: Chien Si Harriman
The presentation will include a detailed demo and facilitate discussion of the features and capabilities of the IES/Revit suite of software tools for building energy modeling. As Autodesk Revit architectural software has become more robust in its capabilities, and more and more companies have become interested in the advantages the IES/Revit combination offers. The IES software includes a CFD module for analyzing natural ventilation and under-floor air distribution, advanced daylighting, and simulation of detailed energy consumption.
The IES/Revit suite offers a rich visual representation of a building's geometry, directly integrated with AutoCAD source files, for a seamless development of building models -- from CAD design through final energy simulation. Autodesk uses a BIM approach, a new Computer Aided Design (CAD) paradigm that combines intelligent, 3D graphic design with parametric object-based design. Coupled with IES, Revit provides full bi-directional associatively of geometric elements and physical properties to short-cut the tedious task of creating a detailed building model, leaving users to concentrate on "what if" analysis and building energy use behavior. A change anywhere is a change everywhere, instantly, with no user interaction to manually update any view.
