1. Expert Speaker (30-40 minutes): Deborah Greaves is a current member of the Environmental Advisory Committee of the RDCO. She has also been a commissioner for the Advisory Planning Commission of the City of Nanaimo. Deborah has been actively and passionately involved in various public and high-profile positions throughout her career. She has been a published newspaper writer for 20 years. To quote her words: "I can't offer a degree in architecture or law or a prize for journalism, but I do offer my perspective as a citizen with two decades of volunteer committee work under her belt- much of it related to urban planning and the built environment."
2. Greencast (10-20 minutes): A short movie, presentation, article or blurb on sustainability around the world.
3. Overview of the Living Building Challenge: The Living Building Challenge was created by Cascadia and has been formally recognized by both the USGBC and the CaGBC. This green building rating system is what can be referred to as "beyond LEED". The Living Building Challenge attempts to step beyond buildings that are built to do less bad and attempts to create buildings that are totally neutral or actually restore the environment. Sounds ridiculous? If you want to find out more, please join us for a preview of this green building rating system.
