Navigating LEED® with Light
Presentors: Chris Meek, Edward Bartholomew
University of Washington, Integrated Design Lab
Integrated Design Lab speakers, Chris Meek and Edward Bartholomew, will show you
how integrated lighting strategies can contribute to the success of a LEED® project while
reducing a buildings energy use, and enhancing the visual environment.
Daylight and electric lighting are essential elements in sustainable building design. On average lighting accounts for 22% of
the energy use in commercial buildings and provides significant impact for creating visual comfort in interior spaces. Per the
IESNA and IALD, “Sustainable lighting meets the qualitative needs of the visual environment with the least impact on the
natural environment.”
