Building Operator Certification (BOC) is a nationally recognized training and certification program for building operators offering improved job skills and more comfortable, energy-efficient facilities. Training for BOC certification is classroom based and offered in a course series format covering a full range of building systems topics. The Level I course series offers eight one-day classes held once a month for a total of 56 hours of training; the Level II series offers seven one-day classes for a total of 49 hours of training. Classes consist of lecture, discussion, small group exercises, and facility tours. Facility projects require participants to demonstrate competence in locating building equipment, distribution pathways, and control points; calculating facility energy consumption; critiquing HVAC systems operation; and, sketching the facility's electrical distribution system.
