This month’s SLUG event will focus on “LEED Code Breakers” -- those green strategies advocated by LEED but condemned by local codes or restrictions. Specifically, we will try to explore the *perception* verses *reality* that the use of some sustainable strategies are limited due to external influences such as codes, lending practices, ordinances, etc. Speakers will highlight the sustainable technologies, strategies, and/or projects they had been involved with and whether there were any difficulties due to restriction, regulations, etc. Special guests will include:
Lucia Athens
Lucia manages the City of Seattle’s Green Building program, the first city to adopt a sustainable building policy for the city's major capital improvement projects and *the* city with the most LEED certified buildings in the world. She also helped Austin develop its own sustainable building program. Lucia has also served on the USGBC’s Board of Directors.
Bob Scheulen
Bob is the former President of the Northwest EcoBuilding Guild and the creator of www.sensiblehouse.org <http://www.sensiblehouse.org/> , a website dedicated to the lessons learned in designing and building his own house. His home- nicknamed the Sensible House- was the first house to receive the highest Built Green rating of 5 Stars and also the first to receive a permit from the City of Seattle to flush toilets with rainwater.
