Featuring: John Moffat, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
ABOUT THE EVENT: Drivers are usually shocked when they run down a pedestrian...”I never saw him”. When a cop pulls someone over for failing to stop at a crosswalk, the driver always says “I didn’t see anybody!” Ask any cop who enforces near a school and they’ll identify the problem – teachers and parents of kids from the school! Modern drivers are insulated from
the road, in a hurry, speeding and aggressive. Yet they are decent and respectable people.... How is this all true? How do we create a situation where these folks look out for people who are walking in our community? John Moffat will talk about these issues, what the police can do to protect pedestrians and school kids in traffic. He will also explain the value of measures to improve crosswalks and the built environment. He will explain the role of the wider community in improving conditions for walking for all.
