Info
In
the fall of 2005, facing the end of the firm's lease in the Morgan
Building in Downtown Portland, the Portland-based design firm Boora
Architects began to study its options for staying in its existing
space, which it had occupied since 1990; leasing new space elsewhere in
the city; purchasing a site on which to build a new facility; or
purchasing an existing building to re develop as its headquarters
studio. For reasons of sustainability, functionality, economics, and
design, the firm chose to stay in its leasehold and create the studio
environment that will be the subject of this tour, Oregon's first
Platinum project under LEED for Commercial Interiors. Boora's design
team zeroed in on a central question in the re-design of its Morgan
Building
space: how could the firm accomplish the open plan work environment and
high -volume qualities of loft environments that so many staff desired?
During
this tour of the space with Boora principal John Meadows, you will be
able to observe the results of knowledge sharing through collaboration,
a highly
participative design process, extensive daylighting and
natural ventilation, and flexible workspace using a kit of parts
workstation,and many collaboration
spaces.
This year, the
Urban Land Institute recognized Boora's design of the Adidas Village,
Adidas America's Corporate Headquarters in Portland's Overlook
Neighborhood, with its Award for Excellence for the Americas. To be
announced at ULI's fall meeting in Miami, the Adidas Village was also
one of only five projects to win ULI's Global Award for Excellence.
