A forum and workshop for Building Practitioners to examine the
connect/disconnect between green building rating systems, the Standards
& Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada and
the new BC green building code.

| How are historic building rehabilitation and green building concepts working? We will hear from the architects for the recent rehabilitation of two historic buildings in Victoria, BC. | Attendees will apply what they learned today using a real historic
rehabilitation project. A preservation consultant will provide us with
the historic context of the building and our facilitator will then
provide information about what to expect on Day Two. |

Orientation for Field Exercise |
| The Facilitator will provide an introduction and instructions for
the field exercise at the historic building (tbc). During this
exercise, participants will tour the building with the Developer,
identify issues, and formulate appropriate responses for the
rehabilitation to meet building codes, green building rating systems,
and the Standards & Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic
Places in Canada. Attendees will meet team leaders who will be
assisting in the exercise. Facilitator: Ralph Di Nola, Principal, Green Building Services, Inc.

| Teams should focus on LEED Canada (CaGBC), the Standards & Guideline’s (Historic Places Initiative) and the BC Building Code (BC Building Policy Branch) as it relates to greening of historic and existing properties. | |
| 3:00-4:00 | Reports & Summary |
Teams will report on issues and questions raised during the investigation as well as recommendations. Teams should focus on recommendations or notes that could be made to CaGBC (LEED Canada), the Historic Places Initiative (Standards & Guidelines) and the BC Building Policy Branch (BC Green Building Code) related to greening of existing and historic properties. The Facilitator will wrap-up the field exercise with observations and a dialogue with participants. |
