Lumber Innovations for Durability and Appearance
Part of the CSI Portland Chapter Education Seminar Series
Sustainable construction materials have received plenty of well-deserved attention in the past few years. There seems to be a constant stream of greener products coming into the marketplace, and architects and specifiers have become aware of environmentally-sensitive advances within the wood industry.
Portland Chapter CSI is sponsoring a 2-hour seminar that will introduce the design community to a couple of exciting, new technologies.
PureWood is thermally modified decking---100% chemical-free, non-corrosive, non-toxic, and has excellent rot/decay resistance. It received a favorable review by Alex Wilson, editor of Environmental Building News, and is listed in the GreenSpec Directory.
Tru-Dry lumber uses a radio frequency vacuum kiln to gently and evenly dry large timbers to their core. The renewable energy-powered kilns have no negative emissions and provide timbers that have minimal twisting, checking, and other drying defects.
