EQUILIBRIUM: NET ZERO PROJECTS
Equilibrium is a demonstration initiative that aims to build net zero homes across Canada, meaning each home is designed to produce as much energy as it consumes through heat, light, and power. Ryan Scott and Patsy Bourassa will discuss the equilibrium projects they're involved with and how they hope to achieve net zero energy.
Ryan Scott, CEO, Avalon Master Builder
As Chief Executive Officer of Avalon Master Builder of Calgary, Ryan is a pioneer in ecosmart building. Chosen by CMHC to design and build an EQuilibrium™ demonstration home, his company’s mission is to build 100% of Avalon homes as Net-Zero energy homes by 2015 at no additional cost to the consumer, while creating homes people love to live in. Ryan is also the Chair of the Professional Homebuilders Institute of Alberta and Alberta’s representative on the National Education and Training Advisory Committee of the Canadian Home Builders Association.
Patsy Bourassa - Chief Executive Officer, Canadian Home Builders' Association of the Central Interior
Patsy Bourassa is the CEO of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association Central Interior Local where she has been for the past six years. This local continues to grow in membership, influence and profile with its innovative projects and activities. Patsy won the first Executive Officer of the Year Award in 2008 from their provincial counterpart for her role in that growth. CHBA CI was the lead on developing the proposal that went to Canada Mortgage and Housing last summer (2008) to be considered to build an Equilibrium™ Sustainable House in Kamloops. That proposal was successful in part because of the unique partnership created and the expertise available to the project.
