Topic: Control of Split Systems – A Real World Assessment
When:
Wednesday, December 16, 2009 @ 12:00PM
Presenters: Will Price, Staff Engineer, Eugene Water & Electric Board
Where: NW Natural's Headquarters - 4th Floor

This month’s topic is about the crossroads of theory, marketing, and the as-built environment.  It is a critical field evaluation of a single commercial retrofit installation of a 6 ton, 6 head VRV/VRF (variable refrigerant volume/flow) system.  M&V can be an important feed-back loop by enriching our understanding of how things work.  A deeper understanding can help guide how we approach our work.  We can better navigate through multiple issues such as marketing claims, installation practices, commissioning and modeling.

It is important to remember that this evaluation represents a single installation.  Each installation is typically wrought with multiple idiosyncrasies.  Sweeping generalizing conclusions about the VRV/VRF system are to be avoided.  Perhaps after about a dozen individual systems have been evaluated in this manner, strong trends will emerge.

What you will see is for mature audiences only.  The names of the manufacturer, contractor and owner have been changed to protect the innocent.  Viewer discretion is advised.
