AIA Portland and Duro-Last Roofing, Inc. present “Thermoplastic Roofing and Energy Studies, Codes and the Sustainable Roof”. This presentation will cover an overview of thermoplastic single ply roofing systems, including a discussion of the characteristics of major players and what issues to consider when specifying a system. The speaker will also present a summary of recent studies and research on reflective roofing products and their impacts on the environment. Included will be a conversation of sustainable design issues for roofing products relative to codes and regulations. Lifecycle costs and their impacts on building design are also covered.

Drew Ballensky is general manager of Duro-Last Roofing, Inc.’s central U.S. facility in Iowa. Drew has over 28 years experience in business and industry in various engineering and managerial capacities. Prior to joining Duro-Last, Drew worked in the U.S. and Canadian operations for a major international manufacturer of pre-engineered steel buildings, was a financial analyst with a major athletic apparel manufacturer and was an owner of a general contracting company.

Drew currently serves as president of the Chemical Fabrics and Film Association and is chairman of CFFA’s Vinyl Roofing Division. Drew earned his bachelor’s degree in industrial technology from the University of Northern Iowa and master’s degree in business administration from Florida State University. He has also contributed numerous articles on cool and sustainable roofing to national trade publications.
