Attendees will be lead through Doug’s journey of reducing his household electrical energy consumption to 10% of the average Canadian household and producing 100% of this energy using a photovoltaic system while keeping the total household energy consumption to 75% of European ‘Passivhaus’ standards in a 100 year old house. Come and learn simple and easy techniques on how to reduce your household energy consumption, how to implement a photovoltaic system and how your behaviour can play a big role in your energy reduction.
Bio – Doug joined Light House in May 2008 after completing his Diploma in Building Technology from BCIT where he specialized in Building Science. Doug’s role focuses on collecting, verifying and coordinating information relating to Green Building projects and assisting on energy modeling, research, documentation and drawings on various projects Light House is involved in. Prior to BCIT Doug spent over 20 years as an IT professional performing a number of roles from network design and computer management to coordinating and managing IT projects. Doug brings along ‘Green’ knowledge gained from activities and projects outside of his working career including attending some of the Light House Guest Expert Saturday afternoon lectures. His passion for the environment and sustainability is quite evident for his bicycle oriented transportation, the generation of all his electrical needs from his roof-top solar panel system and his lifestyle organization to minimize his foot print.
This event will be held at Light House Sustainable Building Centre, located at 1575 Johnston Street, just East of the Public Market in the heart of Granville Island. Our centre is on the second floor and accessible via the glass door and staircase on the southwest corner of the building.
