This seminar is an opportunity for discussion on developments in sustainable building, building codes, Green Building rating systems, forest management certification and innovative applications of current and proposed wood products in sustainable building projects. The presentation will cover:
1. Current developments in green building standards and building codes.
2. Canada's environmental forest management and reputation.
3. The environmental attributes of wood as a building material.
4. Green building case studies using wood with special emphasis on the sustainability aspects for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
Bio – Peter Moonen is a third generation British Columbian who, like many in the province has his roots in the forest sector. A communications consultant with more than 25 years experience, he has spent the last 19 years in the forest industry, dealing with internal and external communications pertaining to regulatory, environmental, sustainability, economic and operational issues.
He is Co-leader of the Sustainable Building Coalition formed with the Canadian Wood Council, Forest Products Association of Canada and various industry, government and non-government organizations. He is also Coordinator of Sustainability and Special Projects for WoodWORKS!, a program developed by the Canadian Wood Council to stimulate and enhance a wood culture in B.C. through education, training and awareness-building programs.
This event will be held at Light House Sustainable Building Centre, located at 1575 Johnston Street, just East of the Public Market in the heart of Granville Island. Our centre is on the second floor and accessible via the glass door and staircase on the southwest corner of the building.
