Mechanical Systems for Deep Green Buildings

Abstract:  Deep green buildings require innovative mechanical systems, and more importantly an integrated design approach to achieve net zero or net zero ready goals. This presentation will brief the three-step approach of load reduction, efficient systems, and on-site renewable energy. Then discuss microclimate analysis, shoe-box energy modeling, natural ventilation, passive solar, and occupant behavior. The main emphasis will be on high efficiency mechanical systems including radiant heating & cooling, heat recovery ventilation, thermal storage, super-high efficiency equipment, smart system design, demand control ventilation and advanced air quality control, variable refrigerant flow (VRF), ground-coupled systems, indirect evaporative cooling, ceiling fans, and advanced controls. Finally on-site renewable will be mentioned including vacuum tube solar thermal, fuel cells, micro-turbine and micro-hydro.

Speaker:  Doug Smith, PE, MBA, LAP, NaSBA

This event is free and open to the public.  Please feel free to bring your lunch!

 Directions to Snohomish PUD.
