CLIMATE RESPONSIVE DESIGN – REFLECTIONS ON PLACE-BASED BUILDINGs

Mr. Brockman will cover a variety of related topics in this presentation, all dealing with trends
in the green building industry and related research: the Architecture 2030 Challenge and its
significant impacts on federal policy, the Living Building Challenge and its financial and
code/policy implications, and the idea of University EcoDistricts. His presentation will explore
the leading edge of the green building movement and how the design and construction
professions are changing (or need to change) to meet the challenges before us.

Clark Brockman AIA, LEED AP – Associate Principal
Clark is Director of SERA Architect’s Sustainability Resource Team. He is the former Chair of
the Cascadia Region Green Building Council Board of Directors and a current board member.
He is also a new founding board member for the International Living Building Institute and
serves on the Advisory Board for The Natural Step Network. He has served in a green building
advisory capacity to Portland’s Office of Sustainable Development, the Portland Development
Commission, Multnomah County, the office of the Oregon Governor, the Oregon Business
Council and both Oregon Congressmen Earl Blumenauer and David Wu’s offices. He is a
frequent lecturer and panel participant on sustainable design, green building and energy
efficiency policy, and the impact of the built environment on climate change.
