OFF GRID ON A MOUNTAIN TOP – UNIVERCITY’S JOURNEY TOWARD A LIVING COMMUNITY

Gordon Harris - President/CEO, Simon Fraser University Community Trust

Tuesday, April 27, 7:00-9:00 pm

The UniverCity Project at Simon Fraser University is being developed around the “Four Cornerstones of Sustainability” –  Environment, Equity, Education and Economy.  The community, adjacent to the SFU Burnaby Mountain Campus, has been recognized with many regional, national, and international awards for its innovations in sustainable urban development.  To date, more than 1,000 homes have been completed, along with the first phase of the Town Centre.

Gordon, a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Planners, is a well-respected urban planner who works to ensure UniverCity remains on the leading edge of energy efficiency, material conservation, healthy environment and community building.  He and his team are making significant and innovative contributions toward the creation of independent and universal green building standards to ensure a high level of urban design and environmental performance.  Prior to joining the SFU Community Trust, Gordon provided consulting services to a wide range of Canadian and international clients.  In his practice, he was recognized as one of Canada’s leading providers of market-based economics analysis and strategic planning support to local governments and the private sector.
