Join us for a tour of the first certified Passive House in Eugene (second one in Oregon).  Passive House is an integrated set of design principles for lowering energy demand to a practical minimum. Passive House is called “passive” because it  doesn’t require an active heating system. This allows more investment in the home’s insulation, windows, doors and a tight shell, resulting in a typical 90% savings in energy used for space heating.

In addition to being a certified Passive House, the Orchard Street home also includes:

  • 5 kW photovoltaic system to achieve Net-Positive-Energy performance
  • Solar thermal hot water
  • Compact design:  less than 1,250 s.f.
  • On-site reclaimed lumber
  • Rain garden
  • Compact edible landscape custom designed for intensive food production
  • Continuous monitoring through Web Energy Loggers
  • Preservation of a huge Black Walnut tree on-site
