Better materials and processes starting now!
Materials are responsible for many adverse environmental issues throughout their lifecycle including illnesses, pollution, resource depletion, etc. The Living Building Challenge envisions a future where all materials in the built environment are replenishable and have no negative impact on human and ecosystem health. On December 14th, ELUG welcomes Amanda Sturgeon from the International Living Building Institute and Jessica Green of Brightworks to lead the discussion on how we can do our parts to make this vision for the future a reality.
Join us for an overview of the Materials petal of the Living Building Challenge, including a discussion of the LBC “Redlist” and specific case studies. We will also discuss some of the specific health and environmental risks associated with the extraction, manufacturing and daily exposure to finish products containing vinyl and PVC. Alternative solutions, and the economic realities of what it takes to create industry wide changes will also be presented.
We hope you will join us for our last ELUG meeting of 2010!
