Presenter:
Robin Hostick, Senior Planner, City of Eugene
Learn about the City of Eugene’s effort to develop a plan for how our
community will grow and develop over the next twenty years, called Envision
Eugene. Every community in Oregon has an urban growth boundary (UGB) – a limit
to how far the city can physically grow out, which protects farms and forests from
unplanned development. The UGB must contain enough land for our projected
population needs over the next 20 years. State law requires all cities to update their
20 year population projections, and their UGB to accommodate the new population,
every so often. Now is one of those times for Eugene. In addition to identifying if we
have enough land to accommodate 20 years of growth, Eugene will also develop its
own UGB (currently Eugene shares a UGB with Springfield).
Eugene’s land assessment project will set the status quo scenario for how much land
we would need to accommodate our 20 year population projections if things happen
in the future as they have happened in the past. With Envision Eugene, we have an
opportunity to look at alternative futures that are different from the base case
scenario and that may lessen the need to expand the city outward. These
alternatives look at how Eugene could grow by asking:
What if we increased the amount of infill development in certain places and in certain ways?
What if we incentivized mixed use development in identified locations?
What housing options exist for people moving into the community or for people moving within Eugene?
Come learn about this effort and how you can weigh in.
Attendance is FREE, but please RSVP!
