E07: Generative strategies/alternative energy
To reach Net Zero Energy status on an annualized basis, a Living Building must generate energy from clean, renewable sources of energy, on-site or at the community level. This session will discuss:
- Definitions and applications of passive solar, including issues of mass and control.
- Active solar topics: technologies, applications, solar availability, climate, calculations, and back-up power.
- Integrating photovoltaics into the building design, including timing and technologies' impact on the design process.
- Grid issues such as controls, power quality, the utility perspective and equipment.
- Other energy sources, such as biomass, cogeneration, wind power, and true geothermal.
