M02: Toward zero waste

Construction and demolition waste represents 30% of the entire US waste stream. A ripe area for materials reuse and recycling, C&D waste also represents foregone resources and potential local economic development. From design to maintenance to renovation and end-of-life, multiple design and construction opportunities exist to allow projects to approach zero waste. In this workshop, attendees will learn from the experts how to make waste equal food, including strategies for:

  • Design for deconstruction
  • Salvage, deconstruction and building materials reuse
  • Maximizing construction and demolition recycling
  • Incorporating salvaged materials into construction
