S02: The science of site
Designing and constructing a Living Building requires a deep understanding of the physical and biological functioning of a site. Cultivating an understanding of the intersection of biology (in the form of botany, soils science, and ecology, among other disciplines) and geology with a detailed view of the macro- and microclimate of a site will help inform building design and function, as will site hydrology and precipitation patterns. This session will introduce attendees to the resources available to map a site's true landscape to design a building that is truly responsive to local and regional conditions.
This session will be available for download in early 2009.
