Designing Regenerative Food Systems

Presenters:

Paul Kearsley, Principal, Homestead Habitats

Dave Boehnlein, Principle, Terra Phoenix Design

This breakout session will encourage participants to generate ideas about addressing the urban agriculture component in Living Building Challenge projects.

The session will begin with a facilitated design exercise.
Participants will break into small groups, each receiving a design scenario complete with a map of the project, the site, and contextual information. After a short work session, a presentation will illustrate 30+ successful techniques for on-site food production
covering the following design parameters: Creating Microclimates, Food Production in Architecture, Edible Landscaping, Indoor Food Production, Education & Maintenance, and Community Integration of Food Systems.

Each group will reconvene and work to generate practical ideas for how to better incorporate food production into their original project. At the end each group will report back to the whole with their best ideas.

Session Format:  BREAKOUT SESSION.
