Living Building Challenge Collaboratives: Nuts & Bolts Training for Volunteer Facilitators in the International Living Building Institute Ambassador Network
Training Location:
Beluga room, 3rd floor, R. Tower, Sheraton Wall Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia
The Nuts & Bolts training will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Workshop Overview:
Join the international movement to take on the Living Building Challenge by becoming a volunteer facilitator in ILBI's Ambassador Network. Volunteer facilitators lead Living Building Challenge Collaboratives, local groups of enthusiasts who come together for informal learning experiences and to advance community transformation. Participants in this session will learn how to start up and run a local Collaborative, and how to make the most of the outreach and organizing tools provided by ILBI. This is a rare, in-person opportunity to meet other volunteer facilitators from around the world.
Presenters: Briana Meier and Jay Kosa
Briana serves as the Community Manager of the International Living Building Institute, where she supports the global network of Living Building Challenge Collaboratives. In addition to a master’s degree in city planning, she has completed graduate programs in urban design, real estate development and Permaculture Design. In her previous work a project manager with the Center for Resilient Cities, Briana specialized in community engagement, leading participatory planning and design processes for a variety of outdoor public spaces.
Jay is ILBI's Community Coordinator. As a communications specialist, Jay provides guidance on social networking strategies for volunteer facilitators. Prior to moving to Portland in 2010, Jay lived in Washington, DC, where he worked for an environmental solutions consulting firm. In 2007, Jay provided communication services for, and rode in, a bicycle race across America in a fundraising effort for his alma mater.
Price:
Free, but participants must sign a Volunteer Agreement in order to join the session. The Volunteer Agreement includes a commitment to participate in a two-part, paid training on the Living Building Challenge, as well as a one-year commitment to facilitate a local Living Building Challenge Collaborative.
If you want to learn more about the Ambassador Network before committing to becoming a volunteer facilitator, please stop by the Living Building Challenge booth in the Cascadia Lounge anytime during Living Future. We’ll be glad to discuss how you can take part in this global effort.
