New Cascadia Positions
The Cascadia Region Green Building Council is currently hiring for two new staff positions.
Pharos Materials Protocol Outreach Coordinator – a research and outreach position built around the missing ‘nutrition label’ for building products. The Pharos tool, jointly developed by the Healthy Building Network and Cascadia promises to transform how we understand and share information on the environmental and social dimensions of our specifications. Click Here for the full position description.
Living Building Challenge Program Manager – the individual who will be responsible for day-to-day management of the program, ongoing research, its technical development and its supporting tools. A high level of green building expertise will be required. Click Here to view the full position description.
Cascadia’s New Seattle Office
Cascadia has moved its Seattle
office to new storefront location in beautiful Pioneer Square. The new
Seattle address is 410 Occidental Ave. S. Over the next three months we
intend to turn this beautiful and historic space into a showcase of
green practices. The space will include a free resource library,
bookstore, project showcase and the offices for our Washington-based staff. We are actively looking for corporate sponsors to help us outfit
the space and become part of the new green building hub for the region.
Stay tuned over the next few months for photos of the wonderful
transformation.
ASHRAE 189P Public Comment Period In 2006, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the US.Green Building Council, and the Illuminating Society of North America (IESNA), with the assistance of the AIA, embarked on a project to develop a model code that provides legal standards for high performance, green buildings that would apply to all buildings except low-rise residential buildings (Standard 189). The 1st public review draft of Standard 189P is now available for review and comment. The 45-day public review ends July 9, 2007. More Info

Women in Green
Is there a greener gender? Studies show that women are more likely than men to support environmental causes through voting, activism, and consumer choices. What are the implications for the design industry? Does sustainable design have special appeal for women, and do they in turn offer something unique to the field? In Women in Green: Voices of Sustainable Design, Kira Gould and Lance Hosey explore these questions through informal conversations with architects, designers, consultants, policymakers, educators, and students. What they find is that women may be changing how we all see our world and our work. Click Here to Order
