Provide Comment on the Possible Revisions to the LEED Certified Wood Credit(s)!
On Friday, August 8th, the U.S. Green Building Council opened the First 30-day Public Comment Period for proposed revisions on how LEED awards points for the use of certified wood. Comments are being sought on: (1) the proposed revisions to the credit’s intent and requirements and (2) the criteria proposed in the USGBC Forest Certification System Benchmark. If you are a member of the USGBC, you are encouraged to participate in this process - the Public Comment Period closes Sunday, September 7, 5:00 PDT.

British Columbia- Green Skyline
On September 25th, 26th and 28th, Cascadia will launch its annual tour of green buildings. Through tours of over twenty-five buildings, Green Skyline will showcase some of the most innovative green buildings throughout British Columbia, demonstrating to the industry and the public what smart design, construction and operations look like. Both residential and commercial tours will be held in Vancouver Metro area; in the Okanagan; and on Vancouver Island. On Vancouver Island, there will be one tour of each project. The Pharos Project + Green Building Materials Selection
Seattle, August 21st, Register Now!
This half-day workshop tackles the issues and challenges inherent in understanding green building products. Through a focused lens of sixteen traits (Wedges) of ecological concern, participants will learn about the influence of material selection on health, social justice and resource use. Join Cascadia's Research Director, Eden, for an overview of Pharos, including its operating principles, Framework - the performance metrics by which building products are evaluated - and how these can be applied to the day-to-day selection and specification process.

Transforming our Built Environment: Green Rehabilitation and Sustainability Forum and Workshop, Coming in November!
A forum and workshop for Building Practitioners to examine the connect/disconnect between green building rating systems, the Standards & Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada and the new BC green building code. This two-day workshop will examine the current state of heritage, green buildings and sustainable communities in British Columbia in an effort to contribute to the green building and heritage/existing building initiatives (e.g. LEED NC for New Construction and Major Renovation, LEED EBOM for Existing Buildings Operations and Maintenance, LEED CI for Commercial Interiors, BOMA Go Green, the Building Codes and the Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada).

Living Building Leader- New Format!
Since the launch of the Living Building Leader program in June, Cascadia has been listening to users’ comments and concerns. Cascadia has weighed the benefits and drawbacks of live, online sessions in comparison to the other learning formats. After much discussion and feedback, the Living Building Leader team has decided to change the session mode to pre-recorded video playback. Video playback is similar to the current session format, in that sessions will be viewed online and will be followed with an exam for those wanting to have the session count toward Living Building Leader designation.

British Columbia Climate Action Team Report
On August 6, 2008, British Columbia ’s Climate Action Team presented its recommendations for strategies and interim emissions targets for 2012 and 2016 to assist the Province achieve its emission reduction target of 33 per cent by 2020. “Meeting British Columbia’s Targets: A Report from the B.C. Lincoln City, Oregon adopted LEED-NC Silver as standard for new City buildings, LEED-EB for appropriate existing facilities, and plans to renovate the City library under the LEED-CI guidelines. Lincoln City is also striving to become the first carbon neutral city in Oregon! Learn more about incredible actions this small coastal community is making to ingrain sustainability throughout the city.

Anchorage, Alaska adopted LEED Certified as the minimum standard for all publicly funded buildings, including schools, with the passage of the Sustainable Building Ordinance. Also included in the ordinance is a provision that allows for private sector projects that earn LEED certification to receive a refund or a portion of building permits, up to 35% for LEED-Platinum.
