Alaska!
As of January 1st, the great State of Alaska is officially a part of the Cascadia Region Green Building Council - joining British Columbia, Washington and Oregon. The Alaska Branch of Cascadia will become actively engaged in our regional efforts to change the design and construction industry. Cascadia will seek funding for an Alaska State Director in 2008 and will be rolling out programming for Alaska in the second quarter. Please join our staff and board in warmly welcoming the Alaskan members to our organization!

Help shape the future of green building in Cascadia! Cascadia seeks exceptionally qualified applicants for election to the Cascadia Board of Directors. Any Individual Member of Cascadia is qualified to apply for election to the Board. All interested candidates are encouraged to submit information to seek a seat on the Board in this election by February 11. An Evening with John L. Knott Jr, Noisette: A Model For the New American City
Join Cascadia and program partners for a presentation by John Knott, president and founder of the Noisette Company, LLC, based in North Charleston, SC. Knott is leading the Noisette Project, a 3,000-acre redevelopment of the former Charleston Naval Base, currently one of the largest sustainable urban renewal projects in the United States. He has a vision to turn this project into a model for an environmentally conscious, socially just city for the 21st century - the New American City. The event will take place on January 31 at the Seattle Public Library; doors will open at 5:00pm and the program will start at 5:30pm.

Living Building Leader Program In May, Cascadia will launch a series of advanced education courses tied to a new professional certification: Living Building Leader. These technical courses will be offered through an eLearning platform to disseminate the highest recognized level of green knowledge in the industry. Look for more information in the upcoming months!
Introducing a New Sponsor Benefit
Starting in 2008 Cascadia will be periodically releasing RFP's for research projects, paid guest faculty and more. This will allow active supporters of Cascadia to compete for prestigious projects to help move the green building movement forward. Cascadia will be releasing two such RFP's sometime in January and February. Be on the look-out for exciting projects that you may want to pursue. A hint.... A living building research project will be announced soon!
Vancouver Island Branch Launch
The Vancouver Island Branch is holding its official launch on February 6th, 2008 in Victoria, BC. The day will start with a tour of one of the newest green buildings on the campus of the University of Victoria and include a presentation on campus by Cascadia CEO, Jason F. McLennan. Later in the day, a separate public lecture will be held in downtown Victoria at St. Ann’s Academy for people interested in learning more about green buildings. We hope to see you there! More Info
2008 Natural Talent Design Competition
The Cascadia Emerging Green Builders are asking students and young professionals throughout the bioregion to tackle the design of a Living Building! The 2008 Natural Talent Design Competition will engage the bright green young minds of our region as they find solutions to the challenges presented at this level of sustainability. Competition entrants will gain access to the Living Building Forum to aid their progress. The winner will be announced at the Living Future 08 in April, and will win a trip to Greenbuild in Boston and the chance to compete in the national competition. Registration opens January 18th.
Emerging Green Builders PDX Petal Series
Throughout January and February, students and young professionals in Portland will have the opportunity to learn about the framework of Living Buildings through the PDX Petal Series, a series of six lectures, each focused on a different Living Building petal. Taught by experienced green building practitioners, these lectures will serve as a great tool for those interested in entering the Natural Talent Design Competition.

City of Portland's RFP for the Green Investment Fund
The City of Portland requests proposals for innovative, high performance green building projects. Funded through the City of Portland's Green Investment Fund (GIF), this grant supports the design and construction of highly innovative and comprehensive green building projects. The GIF is a partnership between the City of Portland's Office of Sustainable Development, Portland Water Bureau, Bureau of Environmental Services and Energy Trust of Oregon. In the current round of funding to be awarded in 2008, a total of $425,000 is available. The maximum grant amount for any project is also $425,000. Proposals are due Feb 4. More Info
