Green Building Capacity Crunch Date: Friday, July 18, 2008 at 5:30 pm Location: Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre, 181 Roundhouse Mews (Corner of Davie & Pacific), Vancouver, BC for food and drinks. Click Here to RSVP
The demand for green building consulting in BC is extremely high and there isn't sufficient capacity to deliver. The new BC Green Building Code, growing numbers of green building bylaws, the CaGBC and Cascadia Region Green Building Council's goals - create a framework/context for more and more green buildings. Many sustainability/green building consulting companies that are not part of larger design firms are feeling overwhelmed by demand and turning down work at an increasingly high rate, leaving clients frustrated and disappointed with little options left.
Please join us in the second of a series of brainstorming sessions to explore what can be done to address the green building capacity crunch.
Notes from the 1st session can be downloaded by Clicking Here. More Info
USGBC accepts Core Performance as a prescriptive path for LEED
Buildings that follow Advanced Buildings Core Performance can qualify for up to five LEED points without the usual requirements for modeling. That’s because the U.S. Green Building Council has accepted Core Performance as a prescriptive alternative for the Optimize Energy Performance credit under Energy and Atmosphere (EA credit 1). All LEED buildings are now required to achieve at least two points in this credit in order qualify for certification. Advanced Buildings Core Performance was developed by the nonprofit New Buildings Institute.
For details on how Core Performance can be used to earn LEED points Click Here

AIA Local Leaders in Sustainability
The Local Leaders Report examines the current state of green building laws in American cities as of 2007. Since 2003 the number of cities with green building programs has increased greater than 400%, due to a concerted effort by local political leaders, officials, architects and others within the design/building industry, and grassroots support. The primary goal of this analysis is to provide a tool for communities as well as other levels of government that seek to design green building programs in the future. More Info
