Cascadia teams with Portland Habitat and Walsh Construction to build LEED homes!
Upon entering the 2007 Natural Talent Design Competition, David Posada and Scott Mooney did not think their entry would result in an actual building. Due to the sponsorship and donations of many dedicated organizations, their entry - the competition's winning regional design - will be the first LEED-certified Habitat for Humanity project in Oregon. The 2007 NTDC, a competition sponsored by the Emerging Green Builders of Cascadia on a yearly basis, challenged young designers to combine the fields of green building and affordable housing with a two-home LEED silver-rated design on a vacant lot in Portland – one that just happened to be owned by Portland Habitat for Humanity. 2008 Natural Talent Design Competition- Now Open!
The Cascadia Emerging Green Builders are asking students and young professionals throughout the bioregion to tackle the design of a Living Building! The 2008 Natural Talent Design Competition will engage the bright green young minds of our region as they find solutions to the challenges presented at this level of sustainability. Competition entrants will gain access to the Living Building Forum to aid their progress. The winner will be announced at the Living Future 08 in April, and will win a trip to Greenbuild in Boston and the chance to compete in the national competition. More Info
Cascadia Challenges you to...turn off your lights Think you can live without any electricity for one hour? How about longer? On March 29 at 8pm, millions of people across the world will be hitting the lights for an hour in recognition of Earth Hour, an initiative to raise awareness of the need to take action against global warming. Glumac, a Silver level Friend of Cascadia, has already rallied 60 members its staff company-wide to take the challenge. Cascadia is challenging you – our loyal readership – to do the same. The individual and company that can (in true honesty) say they kept their lights off the longest will be featured in our April newsletter. Send your completed Earth Hours to Jenny at jenny@cascadiagbc.org to enter. More Info
