Living Future 08 Highlights!
Canada’s emerald city took on an even deeper hue on April 16-18, as nearly 400 of North America’s greenest building practitioners descended upon Vancouver for Living Future 2008. Cascadia's signature conference provided attendees with a top notch educational sessions, unique and lively networking opportunities, and inspirational keynote presentations from Paul Hawken, Jason F. McLennan, Thomas Mueller and Sim Van der Ryn. Living Future 08 was truly an inspirational event, but don't take our word for it; here's what some of the delegates had to say:
"I particularly liked that the conference was genuinely on the forefront of sustainability. There was a general sense of people not wanting to re-iterate the same things again, but rather really push forward for the next step. There was a lot of determination to make the next big leap.”
“My favorite part [of Living Future] was sensing the incredible Zen in the air from the growing awareness for the environment.”
“The overall atmosphere was quite inspiring. The enthusiasm was high among most participants and, in addition to quality sessions and speakers, it was refreshing to brainstorm and talk with other practitioners.”
“I talk about the ideas in the office and spread the words from the conference to all the people in my life.” **photos by Chad Kirkpatrick, witnesstobeauty.com

Natural Talent Design Competition (NTDC) Winners! The winners of the 2008 Natural Talent Design Competition were announced at Living Future! First place went to Eco•laboratory a team of young professionals comprised of Brian Geller, Dan Albert, Chris Dukehart, and Myer Harrell. Responding to the Living Building Challenge in the heart of Seattle's Belltown, the team acknowledged that "there is no silver bullet" for sustainability, yet demonstrated innovative solutions throughout the design. Honorable mention was given to The Junction, designed by the Emerging Green Builders of Victoria team, Carla Safrany, Nadine Anseeuw, Stewart Burgess, Sarah Stoner, and Melissa Lawrence. The Junction pursued an urban solution that weaves together the sustainable with the socially just. Click Here to view the competition submissions.
