British Columbia- Green Skyline
On September 25th, 26th and 28th, Cascadia will launch its annual tour of green buildings. Through tours of over twenty-five buildings, Green Skyline will showcase some of the most innovative green buildings throughout British Columbia, demonstrating to the industry and the public what smart design, construction and operations look like. Both residential and commercial tours will be held in Vancouver Metro area; in the Okanagan; and on Vancouver Island. On Vancouver Island, there will be one tour of each project. Pharos Workshops
The Pharos Project + Green Building Materials Selection
Coming to Vancouver on October 16! Register Now!
This half-day workshop tackles the issues and challenges inherent in understanding green building products. Through a focused lens of sixteen traits (Wedges) of ecological concern, participants will learn about the influence of material selection on health, social justice and resource use. Join Cascadia's Research Director, Eden, for an overview of Pharos, including its operating principles, Framework - the performance metrics by which building products are evaluated - and how these can be applied to the day-to-day selection and specification process.

Transforming our Built Environment: Green Rehabilitation and Sustainability Forum and Workshop, Coming in November!
A forum and workshop for Building Practitioners to examine the connect/disconnect between green building rating systems, the Standards & Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada and the new BC green building code. This two-day workshop will examine the current state of heritage, green buildings and sustainable communities in British Columbia in an effort to contribute to the green building and heritage/existing building initiatives (e.g. LEED NC for New Construction and Major Renovation, LEED EBOM for Existing Buildings Operations and Maintenance, LEED CI for Commercial Interiors, BOMA Go Green, the Building Codes and the Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada).

Living Building Leader: new sessions October 20th!
The next group of Living Building Leader sessions are slated for release on October 20th. In the upcoming weeks, six will be available: Urban Restoration Ecology, Energy Load Reduction, Lighting and Day lighting, Comfort, Productivity, + Delight, Site Flow, and Navigating the Codes. USGBC Announces Strategic Plan 2009-2013
The U.S. Green Building Council’s strategic plan sets forth its vision for the next five years. Included in the plan is a summary of key strategic issues facing the green building community in general and USGBC in particular; an update to USGBC’s Guiding Principles; and the agenda, program goals and implementation strategy for transformation.

Canada Green Building Council (CAGBC) Green Building Performance Initiative
National pilot projects are being conducted to establish energy and water performance standards, beta test certification processes and tools, determine educational requirements for the next generation tool, and develop accreditation criteria for building owners and managers, programs, certifiers and assessors. The first pilots involve K-12 schools, utilities, government and commercial office buildings. The pilots include benchmarking of energy and water use, estimation of conservation potential, and engineering assessments of the most efficient buildings. REgistration ends Sept. 30th.

As a fundraising consultant specializing in grants, Sarah has worked with a wide variety of non-profits including environmental organizations, colleges and universities, museums, and relief agencies.

Joanna comes to Cascadia from both the education field and the residential construction industry. Originally from the mid-west, she graduated from Ball State University with a B.A. in History and Secondary Education where she focused her studies on multi-cultural and cross-cultural education teaching in Jamaica.

Darby developed a mean crossover dribble as a grade school student and daughter of a former Ohio State basketball player. While she no longer (mostly) employs her patented head fake, she continues to nurture her thirst to save the planet. Darby has filled the lane in a variety of creative and business enterprises, including stints at a burgeoning software development firm and the world famous Chicago International Film Festival.
