Cascadia to redefine what it means to be an engineer, 12/12/07
Beaverton, OR – December 12, 2007
In cultivation of a holistic philosophy of green building, the Cascadia Region Green Building Council is hosting its second annual regional conference on green engineering practices, called engineeringgreen07. On December 17-18, engineers and other building professionals from across the Pacific Northwest will gather at the Nike campus in Beaverton, OR to partake in cutting edge technical trainings that will demonstrate how to incorporate green engineering practices into the integrated design process.
Engineeringgreen07 aims to “redefine what it means to be an engineer.” It addresses the need to engage engineers in the green building movement and to equip them with the skills necessary to adopt advanced and innovative green design practices.
“In the green building world engineers play a crucial role in making our buildings perform to the level required. Engineeringgreen07 pulls together the information and the experts to help all engineers make the leap to deep green practice,” says Jason McLennan, Cascadia’s Chief Executive Officer.
The repertoire of conference speakers features leading green engineering and building experts from across the region and beyond. Gary Christensen, the developer behind the landmark LEED Platinum Banner Bank Building in Boise, ID, will be the keynote speaker. Christensen has taken a leading role in pushing the need for creating high performance, sustainable buildings.
"Tenants are showing more interest in high performance buildings than ever before...tenant demand for sustainable, high performance buildings will push developers to build better buildings, and we can't do that without engineers and architects who are committed and experienced in doing so," said Christensen.
Through in-depth trainings – much of which is not yet mainstream – this conference will prepare engineers to answer this demand for innovative building technologies.
“Green and energy efficient building technologies are currently a huge market driver; virtually all engineers and building professionals will encounter these issues during the course of their work,” said featured speaker Fred Bauman, research specialist at the University of California – Berkeley’s Center for the Built Environment and renowned expert in underfloor air distribution.
Engineeringgreen07 will enable engineers and other building professionals to step up and continue to push the market towards the mainstreaming of green building.
