Callison Architecture - 12 years - 1995 to Present Director of Marketing 1995-1997 - Managed a team of 7 people and marketing resources, photography, etc. Manager, Research and Information Center - Requested and was granted the opportunity to start Callison's new Research Center and built a team (6 people) managed the budget and developed the collections of resources to support design research, etc for Callison Employees and Clients. I have since set up research libraries in our New York and LA offices, and am currently working on the one for Shanghai, China. Prior to this I was the Architectural Research Librarian for the Dallas office of HOK for 14 years managing a team and resources doing much of the same thing. HOK as you know has been a long standing proponent of sustainability. - 26 years working in Architecture. Assisting design staff on some of the largest projects in the world. I have a Bachelor of Library and Information Science from Texas Woman's University,Denton, Texas 1984. Graduated Cum Laude.
in 1998, I was one of a handful of people from Callison that started our Green Research Team. While I wasn't necessarily the leader, I provided much of the research to get our group started. We were a grassroots campaign within Callison, approved by our Board of Directors to study sustainability and how to apply it at Callison. It was during this early research that I discovered the USGBC and a tool called LEED 1.0 that had been unveiled. A few years later, the leader of our group left for a position in Australia and I inheritad managment of our group and our budget. - One of the first 5 employees at Callison to become a LEED AP - 2002 -Taught many classes at callison on LEED and Green Building; - Researched case studies of Green buildings and taught classes at Callison. - First to actually be a LEED AP on LEED Registered Project at Callison, which is pending final certification in the LEED Core & Shell Pilot program - Have persuated principals to step up in leadership roles at callison on sustainability - confronted our board to establish a Policy on Sustainabile Design - which they have. - Developed a network of Sustainable Design Studio Leaders to help expand knowledge about sustainability throughout the firm - Started a database of our sustainable projects and am collecting data and lessons learned to help with future projects. -Callison now have 80 LEED APs and just sent another 80 through LEED training and hope to double this number in the near future. Also, recently I worked with boards members of Urban Green, a non-profit organization by mentoring a graduate student from the UW Information School to help compile the future content of the online resource and future library that is sponsored by Cascadia, ULI and the City of Seattle DPD.
I know many of the members involved with the Cascadia Chapter, and have attended many of the events that have been offered over the years. However I have been rather consumed internally with my own firm - Callison (a firm of over 650 people) to increase Knowledge and awareness of Green Building Practices, LEED and other resources, that I haven't gotten to volunteer much of my time to the greater community and regional cause, which is what I hope to do here.
With the skill set that I have and all of the research I do, I think I can be a resourceful addition to the Cascadia Chapter, in a way that I think will keep Cascadia in a stong position to lead other USGBC chapters and as an stong and credible advisor to USGBC.
Turning a firm of 600+ around is no small task. Much of which has been accomplished on my own time, which includes all of the learning that must happen in order to educate others. Now with momentum behind the firm, I feel like I can look outside to focus my attention. Obviously there is much to be done and am keenly aware of the time restraints, so I'm ready to roll up my sleeves, and contribute in whatever way I can to make a difference. Just like at Callison.
