Since my first days working in architecture, I have been very passionate about environmental issues. For the last six years I have been able to work exclusively in sustainable development, at Paladino & Company, Inc. a Seattle-based industry leader in sustainability. With a background in architecture and building science, my focus areas are energy efficiency, daylighting, materials and concept design. I help design teams and owners implement green strategies, via Eco-charrette facilitation, LEED strategy development, design coaching, technical analysis and LEED project management. I have worked on over a dozen LEED rated projects, including LEED NC, EB, CI and CS. I am also a LEED reviewer for the USGBC, and am the technical consultant that co-developed the first draft of the LEED NC Application Guide for Retail. In addition to built projects, I have also worked to further green building knowledge through conducting trainings and managing green building programs. I was the program manager for the King County Green Building Assistance Program for three years, developing green building tools and publications for the County and helping their project managers implement LEED. I also worked with the City of Seattle to develop a post-occupancy monitoring protocol to measure performance of their LEED portfolio.
As a green building consultant, I work with my clients to demonstrate the value in sustainable development, helping building owners understand the concepts and the benefits of green building. Ultimately this has increased the adoption of green building overall. I have also worked with non-profit organizations seeking to further green building. I served on the Seattle AIA Committee on the Environment for several years and was on the organizing committee for the first two What Makes It Green Conferences in Seattle. I have also worked with the USGBC, not only as a LEED reviewer, but also on the LEED V3 visioning team at Paladino. Our team created a toolkit and program for nationwide chapter input sessions, organized two USGBC LEED visioning sessions with industry leaders from both green building and the broader sustainability community. This input served as the foundation for our report to the USGBC regarding LEED directions through 2020. I have also worked to share green building knowledge within the industry, from the Get to Green LEED Project Management seminar to the LEED for Contractors series through King County and the Association of General Contractors. I have spoken at many green building conferences, from Women in Sustainability to Greenbuild, on topics such as green retail, LEED EB, the art of sustainability, and green specifications.
In addition to my Seattle AIA and USGBC work, I have worked with Cascadia as both a presenter and a facilitator. I attend local Seattle LEED User Group meetings, and have presented there on LEED for EB, based on my expereience with two EB pilot projects. I also facilitated a Cascadia Board meeting regarding target indicators.
With experience in both technical issues and programs, I understand both the challenges of individual owners and design teams in implementing green building and the possibilities that arise when large organizations provide a framework for resources. I would like to bring both of these perspectives in working with the Board to enable our local industry to create a sustainable future in the NW.
After working with the USGBC to create a vision for the national organization to work toward for the next decade, I realized that I could and should focus my energy on my own region. I love living in the NW, my adopted home, and want to be a part of protecting it, of helping others come together and magnify our individual potentials for positive impact and create a vision and an action plan to create a sustainable Cascadia.
