Forum on Sustainability and the Economy
In the spring of 2004, the Institute presented a special series of Forums on sustainable development in the Portland region entitled "Designing with the Environment: A Portland Way?", underwritten by an Environmental Partnership Program grant from the Port of Portland. This four-part series analyzed the art, science, politics, policy, and bottom-line financial realities of designing buildings, businesses, public institutions, and communities with the environment in mind. Arnold Creek Productions just released “Architecture to Zucchini: The people, companies and organizations pioneering sustainability.” This two-hour, 12 segment video on DVD is designed to educate academic, business and government audiences about the principles, practices, challenges and benefits of moving toward sustainability. The focus is on taking into account the social, environmental, economic and health impacts of doing business. It’s the first of a series of video productions on sustainability in the works at Arnold Creek, a company founded by media producers Doug Freeman and Dave Decker.
